As he prepares to drain Starscream's energon as punishment, the Autobots arrive, their attack spearheaded by Ironhide. After Soundwave brings Megatron's weaponry online, he fights off the initial attack, before being blasted into the bowels of the base by Ironhide.

The Decepticon leader retrieves plutonium from an old human stockpile, which he uses to create energon to awaken the hatchlings throughout the base, but structural collapse forces him to use ventilation tunnels to progress. Meanwhile, Starscream gets to the surface and begins bombing the Autobots, but this causes further damage to the base.

After acquiring more plutonium, Megatron decides to begin Shockwave's cryo-thaw, but Soundwave has lost his connection, so the process must be done manually. The leader rallies his Decepticon forces to hold off the Autobot attack while he makes his way through the tunnels to Shockwave's cryochamber, scanning a truck to get there faster. As he nears the cryochamber, he encounters Warpath who, despite his boasts, Megatron easily finishes off.

The Decepticon leader destroys the intense cryo systems that have kept Shockwave frozen for so many years and waits for his assassin to awake.

However, Optimus Prime arrives, using weapons and an impenetrable energon shield from his trailer to battle Megatron. Soundwave informs Megatron that the freezing spray from the cryo generators can weaken the shields, and the Decepticon leader destroys the generators in the room until the shields on Prime can be destroyed. Although Optimus activates a jetpack and heavy weaponry, he is still defeated, and Megatron kicks him down into the cryochamber.

The Decepticon then flees the base, sneaking past Ironhide and Ratchet using his new vehicle mode. Optimus awakens at the bottom of the cryochamber, and realises that Megatron's plan was to awaken Shockwave from his imprisonment by the Soviets. Ratchet is able to activate backup cryo systems, but Shockwave's Driller has already begun thawing, and destroys the backups. Shockwave soons awakens, and engages Prime in combat.

Ratchet identifies the assassin's back-mounted power core as a weak spot, and thanks to Shockwave's sluggishness, Prime is able to exploit this vulnerability. As Optimus begins to gain the edge, the Decepticon fully frees the Driller, which attacks ferociously. Prime utilises his shoulder launcher to injure the creature until it retreats, leaving Shockwave to fight alone.

As the room thaws out, Autobot reinforcements begin to arrive, but each wave is swiftly dealt with by the Decepticon. Optimus continues to attack Shockwave's power core, and activates his jetpack to deal the final blow. However, the Driller re-appears at the last moment, and whisks its master away to safety.

Optimus reports his victory to Ratchet, but laments that Megatron is still at large, and must be found. In Namibia , Starscream joins Megatron and Soundwave just in time to hear Shockwave greeted back into the Decepticons. The Decepticon leader immediately sets his assassin a mission, travel to Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and retrieve an object. Megatron then proceeds to gloat that Optimus Prime has no idea of his plans, and that the Earth and its resources will soon belong to him. You see these markings?

Custom characters can be leveled up by killing dudes in matches, with specific bonuses being given for specific actions. As they level up, more abilities become available. Bumblebee fights Starscream all over the island as Crowbar and Soundwave escape. Starscream, as it turns out, has stolen a piece of Mechtech , which luckily has a built-in tracking system.

The Autobots have traced him to Siberia , and Mirage goes in to stealthily scope the place out by shooting Decepticons. At the Decepticon base, Ratchet briefs Ironhide on the situation—there are radar stations built all around it which must be taken out. Also Ratchet's decoded a transmission indicating that Shockwave is a deadly Decepticon assassin!

Ironhide moves through the valley, hacking the Decepticon computers to clear a way for the Autobots. Ironhide, Bumblebee and Ratchet meet up inside the Decepticon base. Ratchet sends Bumblebee to scout ahead, cautioning him that Megatron may be around.

Luckily Bumblebee just finds a whole bunch of Decepticons to shoot. Optimus arrives, and Ironhide tells him that the Decepticons are completely cut off. Megatron and possibly Shockwave are there. Optimus decides he must go in alone, and tells the others to follow him when he gives the signal. A short time after Optimus goes in, the Autobots receive a weak transmission from him to say that Megatron and Shockwave have escaped, so Ironhide goes after them. He manages to track Megatron, fighting furiously with the Decepticon leader, but Megatron manages to get away.

Optimus announces that they won this battle at least, and will be ready for the next one. Elsewhere Megatron calls a strategic retreat, as he's succeeded in getting what he came for—Shockwave! Starscream relays news to Soundwave that Megatron has ordered a two-pronged assault. While Mixmaster is in charge of one, Starscream is in charge of an attack on a NEST facility, and he wants Soundwave to provide a diversion.

Soundwave is skeptical that these are Megatron's orders, but decides to check up on it later and goes and wreaks havoc in a nearby industrial park as a diversion. Starscream finds Crowbar equally back-chatty when he tells Crowbar to create another diversion near the Stadium to keep the Autobots distracted from the NEST facility. Crowbar proceeds to make as much of a distraction as he can downtown, also encountering Ironhide within the staidum.

Lockdown successfully infiltrates the base, though he spends most of his time chasing Optimus Prime around. Starscream notes that the Autobots have taken over an abandoned Sector 7 base in the Pacific, and dispatches Lockdown there. Lockdown immediately encounters Mirage and defeats the Autobot soundly. Sentinel activates the Space bridge over the Reflecting Pond in front of it.

The activated bridge transports an army of Decepticons and Cybertronian spaceships hidden in the Moon to Earth. They flood into the city assuming new forms.

Optimus tells the others to retreat and then attacks Sentinel, but the elder Prime easily overpowers him. Though Optimus tries to reason with him about his alliance with the Decepticons, Sentinel rebuffs Optimus and beats him up, but lets him live.

Sam went to the party to get Carly to safety. Dylan then revealed he works for the Decepticons when he told that his taught him that if the war wasn't his, then he must always join the winning side. Sam and Carly try to use the latter's car, but it actually turns out to be Soundwave.

Optimus states that the conflict is his fault because he told the humans to trust Sentinel. When the Xantium starts to lift off, Starscream destroys it and the Decepticons attack the city of Chicago. They seal off the entire city and prevent any aircraft or UAVs from getting anywhere near the city.

Their shock gave time for Carly to liberate herself and run towards the Fighter, thus being rescued by Sam. Seeking revenge for what Dylan did to her, Bumblebee destroyed the penthouse by opening fire at it, killing all of his bodyguards and Laserbeak in the process. Upon surviving, Dylan warned Megatron about the Autobots' survival.

Meanwhile, the Autobots are fighting with the Decepticons and Sentinel Prime, who have placed the pillars all over the world, releasing them, transporting Cybertron to Earth. It then begins materializing in the atmosphere. Wheelie and Brains sabotage the mothership, sending it crashing down into the Chicago River.

On top of a building, Sentinel attacks Megatron, telling him that he wanted his home world back, but Megatron won't rule it. During the battle, Soundwave , Que , Barricade and Shockwave are killed, with other protoforms. Sam somehow gets the control pillar, but he is attacked by Dylan. Sam throws Dylan into the pillar, electrocuting him to death. Ratchet shoots the pillar before Bumblebee tackles it, smashing it to pieces, sending their home back through the space bridge, destroying it.

Carly finds Megatron and she starts taunting him. Optimus attacks Sentinel,but loses his right arm. As Sentinel is about to kill Optimus, Megatron shoots Sentinel and Sentinel ends up on the verge of death. Megatron offers Optimus a truce. Optimus throws his energon axe at Megatron, killing him.
