Relaxation between game drives is important and what better way to unwind than with an invigorating massage. And, if a little retail therapy is called for, a visit to the curio and gift shop should do the trick. Savanna offers excursions to nearby places of interest and scenic beauty including the spectacular Panorama route and an African village.
Here guests visit the school and a traditional healer or medicine man and learn about Shangaan culture and food. On a visit to an elephant sanctuary guests feed and ride the gentle giants. Golf can be arranged at Skukuza or the magnificent Leopard Creek course. These activities, with the exception of golf at Leopard Creek, take place between game drives so no meals or drives are missed.
The Savanna Suite is an opulent home away from home under thatch. Two large, beautifully furnished bedrooms lie on either side of an inter-connecting lounge. Each has a spacious bathroom with free-standing bath, double vanities, double shower and toilet. The bathrooms open onto paved outdoor showers. The bedrooms have glass doors with screens leading out onto covered patios, plunge pool and wooden viewing deck.

Childminding can be arranged for children younger than 2 years old, allowing parents the leisure time to partake in game drives.
The three large Executive Suites have canvas roofs for an authentic safari ambience and the romance of sleeping in Bedouin-style tents. Canvas roofs are set above solid walls for comfort, privacy and security as well as efficient air-conditioning and fans. Each Executive Suite has a spacious bathroom with free-standing bath, double vanities, double shower and toilet as well as outdoor shower atrium.

We would stay here again just to be entertained by Neal - a humorous and gregarious personality with a joke or funny anecdote always at the ready.
Most importantly, Neal and our tracker Keely took us on multiple game drives, off roading us to locations where we repeatedly encountered not just the big 5, but all manner of other animals, including birds, and a variety of flora and fauna. Neal grew up in The Park and holds a zoology and related graduate degree. His passion for nature and the wonders of Kruger was infectious. Take a warm shower outdoors in your secluded private area, then lay down on your own pool lounge chair to watch the active vervet monkeys play and many animals feed just feet away from you. No worries as there is a low electric fence to keep the elephants from drinking out of your pool. At the waterhole just beyond, the swarthy warthogs stop to forage and get their drinks as do the spotted hyenas, spiral horned kudu, and a variety of animals living their life with unfettered freedom as they should!

For 40 minutes one day we sat in silence as the pride of lionesses went from peaceful sleep to being on high alert as a warthog approached. It was a prime example of the circle of life that will ever be forgotten. Of course, there were also quiet opportunities to watch the zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, impalas, hippos, rhinos, elephants, and ever so many unique birds. Can you believe that we even got to see a pangolin one night? You will feel the same way, too.
