Presonus' DigiMax LT is a straight forward set of eight microphone preamplifiers. It's simple in just about every way, as I guess it needs to be in order for them to fit eight channels of mic pres in a single space rack mountable casing.
It is also expandable as it has an ADAT output and a word clock input and output. Questions Hot! Why do you have no driver for Firestudio and OS X Best regards Chris. Please log in or register to answer this question.
The is not supported on any OSX version after Lion. I just read this after wanting to use the firestudio after about a year. Sadly this just means it's the last time I'll ever buy a presonus product. Sure I know maintaining drivers is costly, but it's less costly than having to buy another interface or keep an old computer around.
RME models from early s still get driver updates btw. Solution Success! I understand that and plan on using them as overflow premps anyway, using the inserts to bypass the pres with better or character pres as needed.
But it would be nice to have a benchmark to compare the Digimax's pres to? Also does anyone know if the converters are essentially the same in the LT and FS? Thanks JN. My Studio. Slightly more colored than the FS but not a 'character' preamp in any normal sense. I think a comparison to the RNP is fairly valid, as far as the sound goes.
I had a LT sometime ago.. The pres were decent as well as the converters.. IME, the pres or maybe it was the converters.. Wiped away that smearing haze..!.. He modded the analog section in the mic pre and converter section.. I had to sell it tho.. Having analogue insert points makes it easy to patch in your analogue rack compressor or other processors while recording.
The Digimax LT does exactly what it is supposed to do, and it does it to a very respectable standard, though there are cheaper alternatives in the UK that offer perfectly adequate quality and in some cases more features, such as the eight additional balanced line outputs found on the Behringer ADA The Behringer unit also has its inputs on the front where they are more accessible, but arguably less tidy, so there's no single right way of doing things.
Where the Digimax LT scores is in providing very nice mic preamps, and it offers a neat and simple way to get eight more good-quality mic or line inputs into any ADAT-equipped soundcard, audio interface, or digital mixer. It also has word-clock in and out, so you can use it as the master clock for your recording system or slave it to an existing master clock.
In today's studio, where many of the more complex tasks have been taken over by the computer, having a simple and compact means to add more inputs is extremely welcome.
Although no longer the cheapest option for adding extra mic and line inputs to a system with ADAT lightpipe connectivity, the Digimax LT does a good job and also sounds good. Pros Simple and effective. Good-sounding mic preamps.
